UCLA Prompt
Every person has a creative side, and it can be expressed in many ways: problem solving, original and innovative thinking, and artistically, to name a few. Describe how you express your creative side.
Things to consider: What does creativity mean to you? Do you have a creative skill that is important to you? What have you been able to do with that skill? If you used creativity to solve a problem, what was your solution? What are the steps you took to solve the problem?
How does your creativity influence your decisions inside or outside the classroom? Does your creativity relate to your major or a future career?
I’m sure you’d rather be entertained through more interesting forms of art that the world supplies rather than my own, but for now you’re limited to writing; one of the oldest forms of art. But not the oldest; there are forms of art far older than writing. Cavemen, for example, produced various artistic pieces. Sure, the carvings in which they etched into their walls is art. But so was the tools in which they crafted. It’s quite obvious, but if you haven’t noticed already, art--in any shape and form, whether it’d be the shape and purpose of a tool or the strokes on a painting--has always intrigued, entertained, interested, or assisted humanity. That’s what it does, and what it’s purpose has been throughout the centuries. It has been constantly pushing humans to be creative. Everything new today, everything that’s ever been invented, has utilized creativity; it’s an eternal aspect to humanity. To me, creativity means to use different, unorthodox, inspired; perhaps even radical techniques and methods to create any artistic piece, even if that technique or method may need minimal or immense refining in the future. The method in which I write this essay too, is a task that heavily requires creativity. Sure; the technique I used was indeed odd, as anyone who didn’t read beyond the first sentence would easily have felt a slight irritation to the message that it expressed (“oh, another boring essay attempting cater to the reader”), but it was intended to stimulate such emotion. It might have been effective, it might not (you’re the judge of that), but that’s the beauty of creativity; it’s a forever moldable clay that gives something it’s own personality.
As a student who has already divulged deeply into the various forms of media such as graphic design, photography, videography, I have always been pushed to use my creativity immensely. In most situations, that involved capturing an audience’s attention through how effectively text is placed on a poster, or the dialogue that makes up a film’s script. Making a film, designing something, taking a meaningful picture; they are all integral parts to both my education and future career. It’s the way in which my creative side is expressed; through actual, visual art. I started very small, with just a free program called Inkscape to design graphics. That was soon translated into photo editing. Soon enough, I began filming, editing, making videos; arguably the integration of the other two I’d previously already had been doing.
Throughout my entire middle school and high school career, creativity and time has allowed the portfolio of designs, photos, and videos of mine to flourish immensely. Each of these pieces among the collection I’ve amassed over the years expresses an individual message. Some blunt, some vague, but all solving the problem of where I should channel my creativity. Everyone, of course, has their own art, because as stated before, everything is art if it pushes one to think radically in face of a problem. Mine is simply the visual type.

Your essay had a variety of words that helped to put your essay together, and it had good sentence fluency. I did get confused at some points, especially when you say things like "it might have been effective, it might not." I get what you're trying to portray with that, but sometimes it makes it sound like you're not putting in your best effort in your essay. I liked the second to the last paragraph, because it really shows the reader your interests and more about you, which is the main point of the essay. Overall, good job.
ReplyDeleteI like how you describe how media is your creative side. Also i don't think you need to explain how the old art is and I like your choice of words. I like how your description to your creative side was media and how you make art with graphic, photo, and video and how you want to do these thing more and in the future.
